Distribution research

Distribution of a magazine can include door-to-door selling, negotiating with retailers and local businesses to stock your magazine, postage costs, labeling costs, delivery costs to retailers or businesses and other related expenses. Before you speak with magazine distribution professionals, you need to decide which of these services you do and do not need.

ANTONOW, A. “Making the Most of Magazine Circulation and Distribution.” Business.com, 22 Feb. 2019, www.business.com/articles/making-the-most-of-magazine-circulation-and-distribution/.

One of the biggest sports magazines is the ESPN Magazine. ESPN is owned by Disney so that allows for the magazine to be highly advertised. Disney has a sports complex contributed to the ESPN network called "ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex". In the sports complex the magazine is highly advertised as well as sold at the complex. The Complex holds many sporting events and tournaments for all sports which draws in the audience that the magazine wants to attract.

Marketing Plan

Social Media:
We've created a social media platform that will share sneak peaks into our magazine and some exclusive and behind the scenes footage and photos. We are using Instagram as our social media platform to reach a younger audience who would be interested in the Sarasota High magazine as well as the adults who know how to use and consistently use social media.

Collaboration with School Publication:
We decided to sit down with out school publication who writes the Year book and the Sarasotan at our high school. The Schools publication team would be able to advertise for our magazine so that students have the opportunity to not only see our magazine but feel more comfortable investing in it when there is a program like the School publication team backing it.

Collaboration with School Athletics Program:
Since our magazine targets the athletics at out school we decided that the smartest move to sell our magazine would be to talk with the School Athletic Program. The Athletic Department could have our magazines for adults, students, faculty, and players to buy during the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons.

Revison

I edited the cover so that the image was sharper and had more color to pop out at the audience. I also put a grey shadow around the sub-heading because when people reviewed my paper they mentioned the text got lost in the background. I was also able to line up the numbers with the text so that it follows structure.

Photo Shoot revisions

I went to a Girls Varsity Soccer game so that i could get better pictures to put on the cover if I got a good enough photo. This photo shoot went really well because I brought a larger lens to capture everything on the field and I was able to understand the camera settings a little better this time around. I might edit them so that they look better and capture the play of game.

Revision

I'm posting the table of contents side-by-side so that the changes are easily visible. I matched the line color with the text color so it looks more official. I changed the picture to the left because it seemed to look more like a filler than a meaningful picture. The picture was of girls soccer so that there weren't just guys soccer pictures in the magazine. I added the black box behind the text so that the text was easier to read.

Feedback/Revisions

After presenting my project to my peers I got the following feedback.

Cover:
- The "Starts Today" text blends in too much with the background
- Make the sub-text a little neater
- See if you can get another photo that has better reolution

Table of contents:
- The shades of orange are a little different so trying to make them all match
- The text in the TOC needs to be arranged so the space is used more efficiently
- Text is hard to see so enlarge text

Article:
- Put page numbers on the articles
- Make page numbers correlate to the TOC and flat plan
- Put descriptions on all pictures
- Vary the type of pictures in the article
- Solid Color page might be too expensive

I plan to try to fix a lot of these problems as much as I can. I know that some of these will be harder to do than others like matching the font color with some background colors but I'll try my hardest to do so. I also know that the change of the solid orange background might not be a big deal because if I post digitally like most magazines are then I won't have to worry about the cost of ink.

Use of Conventions

My magazine incorporates the athlete social group in our school. I also am reaching out to the parents of the student athletes. I know that the parents would want to be apart of the athletics going on in the school. In my magazine I used certain conventions that other sports magazines use. I incorporated the original "Sailor Seasonal" sign on my pages like ESPN does to brand their product. I also did not over complicate the cover with words like magazines Soccer Bible and Surf Magazine.
