TOC Template

I chose the pages because I felt those would draw the most attention. I wanted to put only two pictures so that it may capture the readers attention but not bun-bard them and distract them from the articles in the magazine. I went with the school colors and had the numbers yellow so that there wasnt too much orange in the Table of contents.

Photo Shoot

The photo shoot went better than I thought it would go. I got a lot of clear shots of the field. For a first time shooting these type of photos i learned a lot about how to take the photos and when to take them. These are some of the better photos of the photo shoot. 

Setting Up Photo Shoot

I plan on going to a boys Varsity soccer game against a District team because the Intensity should be higher and I believe I could get better pictures that way. I didn't want to drive all the way to another school so for convenience, I waited for a home game. I chose to go to Sarasota High School vs Manatee High School game because Sarasota was projected to win that district game.  I plan on taking some action shots, over the shoulder shots, wide shots, and mid shots if possible at the game.

Scouting Locations

I scouted a lot of the winter sport locations to decide where I could get not only the best pictures but the best story as well. Basketball was first a thought but I don't know basketball that well and the days the games were hosted on didn't work with my schedule. Wrestling was another but I couldn't make it to any of the meets due to work and family obligations. I was able to make it to soccer games and because I was on the soccer team I was able to get up on the field to take pictures that no other sport allowed me to do. I also was able to get better interviews from the soccer players because they knew me and felt more comfortable giving interview responses than other sport athletes.

Cover Template

My group and I chose to do our magazine unique to our school so we decided our pages would have a lot of our school colors(orange,black, and white). We noticed that ESPN Magazine never over complicated the ads on the front, there is usually about three and we replicated that. We also notived that the fonts were big to catch the attention of the audience so I made my numbers big so the audience would want to know what the numbers represent. Sports Illustrated, Soccer Bible, ESPN Magazine, and surfer magazine all usually had a quick, two word, statement that would make you want to read a story inside the magazine so i added "Starts today" with a sub-text saying "season starts now".

Flat Plan

In my sports magazine flat plan my group and I decided that we would split the magazines into seasons. Because our high school has three seasons (fall, winter, and spring) we added a fourth that would be released at the end of summer to give an idea of what is to come in the sports news. I chose to do the Winter issue because i was more familiar with it because I played soccer and the sports interested me more this time of the year. My group decided we would have a similar ending to every magazine covering the big events called "Extra points". I split the magazine up by the sports and gave every sport in winter its own section.

Magazine Research Project- Runner's World

Runner's World magazine publishes a new issue eleven times a month. In December 2012 the magazine was said to have a total circulation of around 710 thousand. The covers of the Runner's world magazine consists of a normal person, usually in running shape, with the front bombarded with the stories contained in the magazine. The whole magazine has eye catching colors and photos of nature and people smiling. The TOC is very orderly with a pictures included of one of the stories. The ads are usually of sneakers and dieting products to help you lose weight and get in better shape.

Magazine Research Project- Soccerbible

Soccerbible covers the latest in football product, culture and design. The magazine has an original font spelling "Soccerbible" and their cover pictures usually are close-ups in black and white or a mid shot with abstract designing. The table of contents and articles usually have one picture on one page, the title on the next, and the next page contains the articles. The magazine contains a lot of ads for Adidas, Nike, and other sports wear for soccer players. This magazine focuses on the fonts and the photography. The magazine has only a few articles but they are in depth articles, usually pertaining to the person on the cover. The magazine releases one issue every month.

Magazine Project Research- Surfing Magazine

The "Surfing Magazine" Shoots their covers from a long shot. They shoot in a long shot so that you can see the surroundings and as well as the person. The magazine also likes shooting over the shoulder shots. The magazine definitely edit their photos so that the water is brighter and the details are vivid. The articles included in this article are ones selling surf boards and other surfing products, good destinations to surf and adventure to, and ads for jeeps and tropical restaurants. This company sold monthly issues.They were established in 1964 and the final issue was in 2017. The company sold around  90 thousand magazines a month. Surfing magazine never recieved any rewards for their work.

Magazine Project research- ESPN the Magazine

ESPN The Magazine is a fortnightly sports magazine published by the ESPN sports Network in Bristol, Connecticut. The first issue was published on March 11, 1998. ESPN Magazine has been nominated for GLAAD media award for outstanding magazine overall coverage. Becasue thus magazine is owned by Disney, the magazine is highly advertised which leads to selling about 4.2 million copies of the magazine a year. 

Magazine Project research- Sports Illustrated

Sports Illustrated has been around since 1954. They are a globally known sports magazine. The stories and the pictures align with the biggest sports topics and events that are to be and that have happened. The name "Sports Illustrated" is put behind the main focus of the cover which is an iconic way that Sports Illustrated sets up their magazine. They put out a new issue bi-weekly and sell around three million issues a month. Sports illustrated gives out awards such of "Best sportsperson" at the end of year.

Project Selection- My Decision

I have decided that the magazine would be the most reasonable and best possible choice for me. The magazine to me seems like I would have more fun developing it. I have experience taking photos and editing them so it is beneficial to put that knowledge to work rather than learn how to record video. I also know that I am not the best actor so that stops me from pursuing the film. I found two other group members that are interested in doing the magazine with me. We all decided that a "Sports Illustrated" type magazine would be the best for us since we are all involved in sports. Sean Quinlan, Robert Luce, and I all are diligent workers and will be adamant on doing the best work and making our magazine very eye catching. Because all three of us play a different sport we didn't argue on what sports we wanted to cover. The three of us have worked together before and know each other well so we should be able to communicate better than most to get this project done .

Project Selection- Film

Pros: It could be a lot more fun to produce a film than a magazine article. With making a film i get the idea of what a producer has to do and tat information interests me. I think that working with friends to act and put together a movie would be a of fun. 

Cons: I do not have much experience with recording and editing video. With the film it is a lot more work and stress due to the tedious things you have to think about and edit throughout the film. I also have to come in agreement with others on what the film is going to be about and how its going to be made which can lead to

Project-Selection-Magazine

Pros: The positives of writing a magazine is that it is independent because i get to work at my pace and not worry about any one not working and ruining my grade on the assignment. I enjoy taking pictures more than I do working with video. I have some experience with picture editing while i have nearly no experience with video editing.

Cons: The magazine is more independent work which means a lot of the project is on me. Even though I will be working in a group, my section is done completely by me. The magazine is also not as hands on and active. After watching how "Ferris Buellers Day Off" was made I enjoyed seeing how hands on it was.
